I found the book very interesting even though the author does not seem unbiasedNonetheless, I liked the way the emperor is described, human than emperor.
A must reading for those interested in history.
á Twilight of the Habsburgs: The Life and Times of Emperor Francis Joseph Ù Generally well presented Familiar stories with some inaccuracies but I enjoyed it.
This was a well researched and informative book about the reign of the Emperor Francis Joseph The complexities of internal politics, especially the Hungarian and Czech problems, were amply aired The treatment of foreign affairs was dense but not especially illuminating Francis Joseph may not have been the sort of character who spawned fascinating anecdotes, but it has to be said that the story of him and his family emerged as disappointingly dull 19th century Vienna was a place of extraordinary energy and charm, but none of that features in this account After finishing this book, I felt that the real issues underlying the last phase of the Hapsburg monarchy remained to be explored.
Readable and well paced life of Emperor and his times
The close knit dynastic monarchs who presided over Europe then, gliding endlessly between hunting lodge and summer palace, completely detached from the experience of life for their commoner subjects but desperate to preserve Empire at all costs, are fascinating in their own right.
This book is a detailed, but not very interesting, account of the life and times of Franz Josef A real attempt is made to capture the sweep and complexities of Austria Hungary s determined but ultimately doomed attempt to keep its Empire intact with as few concessions as possible However the author s style is awkward and at times syntax is clumsy, so that the book makes for plodding reading If my Volume Presents A Biography Of The Emperor Of Austria As Well As A History Of Europe During His ¹ Twilight of the Habsburgs: The Life and Times of Emperor Francis Joseph ✓ Download by ð Alan Warwick Palmer Reign
